This panasonic product was even better than anticipated after reading all the Amazon reviews. It is the ideal lcd for the bedroom or other small room. Don’t let the 720p sway your decision to obtain one. It’s true that attaching the base can be rather challenging, but if you are prepared with a magnetized phillips head screwdriver, it becomes a no stress simple task.

The ordering procedure and shipping by Amazon can’t be any better. My Panasonic, had to go to some previous sites before its final destination, but it arrived right on schedule and the carton was in excellent condition. Once the base was on, I was viewing various channels and observing the excellent slide show feature using one of my SD cards, all within about 15 minutes.

Amazon and Panasonic are highly commended by me.

We have owned a Panasonic 42″ plasma system for a couple of years, & when i purchased that one, the pix quality on the LCD’s simply did not compare very well. So, I had some serious concerns if the 26″ LCD unit would be satisfactory. It did not disappoint in any way, as the pix and sound quality was immediately superior to what I had seen before….there have been some serious improvements in the technology in a short time, it seems.

This replaced a CRT-based 19″ Toshiba unit that we had used in our bedroom for over 6 years. This is slightly wider, but still fit well in the room. the remote operations were almost identical to our larger system, and easy to understand. The digital tuner works extremely well, & the automated search even went faster than our larger system does. Picture quality is superb…cant’ say enough about just how pleased we are overall with our purchase.

Ordered it from Amazon on Tuesday, and it arrived via FedEx (an overworked driver during the holidays, to be sure) on Thursday afternoon, late. No problems with packing or shipping, and no damage to the container, either. Panasonic always packs their equipment very well.

We are considering buying another as a family Christmas present for our youngest daughter and family…..

In closing, I’d certainly recommend this unit for the right room application. Smaller screen size works well in a den or bedroom.

We spent weeks checking reviews, checking out actual sets in various stores and finally decided on a Panasonic, despite other brands (Sony and Sharp) being maybe $20 to $30 cheaper for this size (or close to it) during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.

I took friends and had them say what they liked best, without telling them what we liked. Three of the three people who traipsed thru stores picked the panasonic over the sony, sharp and toshiba models that were everywhere. It’s all about what you see and it’s always gonna be a crap shoot because as everyone will tell you, what you see in the store may not be the same as what you see at home, depending on cable provider/type of input, setup options, etc.

Ironically, everyone selling Panasonic has raised their prices in last week or two. (You could get the 32 inch for $399 or lower. THen it went back up to over $500. The 26 inch had reached a low of around $329 but then went back up to $400 and over for some merchants, with $349 being the lowest that we found, from Amazon.)

We had been considering a Hannspree 28 at $299, but not only could we not see it, the day we went to order, it was sold out everywhere. THat was the day when we looked at our old set and said: Enough already. 11 year-old Sharp had served us well (old CRT) but seriously, time to enter the LCD world. We could barely see the onscreen cable guide. It wasn’t easy to bite the bullet when we needed a smaller set and the 32-inch models were so cheap. (But we have no room in our bedroom and it would have been a huge (no pun) mistake to get a 32 inch as we only have about 8 feet tops from the cabinet and our bed. And that’s the ONLY place we could place it. Heck, this unit would be big in our living room. (City living but we actually have “large” rooms, they are just not wide rooms and that’s where you get limits.)

The box did indeed have some bumps, etc on it and it made us a bit nervous that the Fed Ex guy did not have it on the cart the right way up (Why does no one look at the arrows on the boxes?)

But it seems to be intact.

Frankly, the interior packaging was worrisome. THese manufacturers don’t seem to believe in any real padding or protection for these very delicate screens. I get junk stuff that costs nothing with more secure interior packing materials and real padding than this TV. (Panasonic: Pay attention!)

The trickiest part of assembly was the small screws that held the stand in place. It would have helped to have had a magnetized screwdriver because it took us a while to get each one in the proper way.

As others have noted, it’s a very bare bones info for setup and we had it up and running in like 10 minutes (it took longer to move stuff to get at the back of our old TV and our TW cable box to unplug old set and its cable.)

Here’s the best part for us, as Time Warner-dependent folks: The pix quality with just the regular cable input on back (and three component in connections) is fantastic. Which makes us wonder how astounding the HDMI will be (We would need a new box and we’ve heard about lots of problems with all of the HDMI-equipped boxes that Time Warner uses, which are all Scientific Atlanta (now Cisco?). Tons of online forums filled with complaints.)

We were concerned that pix quality would be compromised without another box. Now, we can wait. (And we’ll see how HDMI works by connecting our new Sony laptop to the HDMI connection on the set.) We really don’t want to mess with another box as we have lots of other stuff attached, including Slingbox.

Setup was fast. The options are relatively limited, but really, how much do you need if the pix looks good?

The onscreen setup is fairly intuitive (if you’ve ever used a cable company remote), so you can access features easily.

The two things we loved about this model were the iPod dock (for select iPods, nanos, touch and phones–don’t waste your time calling the Apple stores. THey can’t tell you which units work. They refer you to Panasonic.) because we have friends who have lots of stuff on their units and this is a quick way to share (video, photos). We haven’t tested that yet.

The other feature is the easily accessed on left side SD card. We love this, especially for friends and family who want to share photos. Very quick and easy. Small lag time between accessing photos (their is a slideshow feature).

A word of caution: We don’t know if it’s just our unit, or all of them, but you have to be very careful taking the SD card out. It seems to stick and you have to try the in/out bit a few times and then gently pull it out. (This has never happened on our computer or our camera, so…)

My only gripes, as it is about all these models: Speakers should be upfront, not underneath, but sound quality is still more than OK. (We’re not looking for theater quality in this size room.) And the bases should turn.

The other thing is this whole shiny black cabinet. HATE that quite frankly and it does pick up glare due to the windows and lights we have in the apartment.

But the viewing angles are good enough that we can watch the TV from the bathroom about 12 feet away and it’s not all that bad in terms of color or “depth.”

The DVDs (regular, not blue ray) we’ve played so far look outstanding. (Almost as great as they do on our Toshiba laptops, which have exceptional resolution. We often watch on the fly while traveling.)

One last thing: We could not mount this on a wall so it’s on a stand that raises it so its now about 46 inches off the floor, which is maybe a foot or more higher than our bed. So we can’t vouch for how it looks when you look “up” as you do with a wall mount.

All in all, we’re pretty satisfied. Now, let’s hope for some long-term reliability and several years of use out of this. (We’re spoiled. We had Sony and Sharp units, big ones, over the years that each lasted over a decade. We had smaller models that lasted 15+ years! We’re not big on buying just to have New New New.) Only time will tell.

FYI: I believe this model was one recommended by Consumer’s Report.

Blind faith purchase. Walked through the stores, compared everything but not a 26″ Panasonic. For whatever reason the Panasonics were not on the shelves. Thought the Sony 26″ to be the best of what I compared with the reviews being mostly favorable. However, the reviews for the Panasonic were 5 stars across the board. Blind faith trust in the heavens and ordered it. Arrived on time with box slightly crunched here and there. However, interior packaging was excellent. No issues. Setup was simple. Instruction booklet straight forward. TV frame/stand looks good and appears sturdy. Plug in panel on back is understandable. Picture is great. Sound is OK. Sigh of relief, thank you heavens.

Two months later and all is still good. I’ve re-compared the brands on the store shelves and I believe the Panasonic to be the best of the group. The picture quality is equal to that of the Sony. The little speakers in the Panasonic sound better than the little speakers of any other 26″ on the shelf. For general use, the little speakers are just fine with the receiver being utilized for ‘real’ sound.

I’m not an electrical technician or anything of the sort. I can’t discuss the fine tech details of why this is better than or less than any other 26″ TV. What I can say is I’m very satisified with this purchase. I feel a little lucky to buy without seeing first and ending up with what I would have bought had I seen it first. Strange.

As of this time, from what I know, have seen and read, I would recommend this Panasonic 26″ and 5 stars are warranted.

After my 4.5 year old PowerBook finaly became useable, I though long and hard about getting another one, But i just couldn’t justify the price. For one quarter of the price I originally paid for the powerbook, this laptop does great, but it certianly doesn’t have the polish of an Apple.

The good:

The 1.2 ghz processor (dual core) has plenty of spunk for all my tasks. There are other versions of the 1410 out there with a 1.4 ghz that is actually slower because it is single core. Intels naming conventions don’t make it easy to figure out, but both these processors are way better than the Atom you fin in the netbook. I’ve output 1080p quicktime via hdmi to a flatscreen and it ran very smooth.

The laptop is just to right size for carrying around all day, but still has a big enough screen and keyboard to actually be usefull for more than just chacking my email.

I’ve gotten over 5 hours on a battery with the wifi off reading pdfs and listen to music. (note: the speakers are on the bottom and work well if it is siting on a hard surface, but you’ll get almost nothing when it is on your lap.)

Windows 7 is the best version of windows I’ve ever used, and feels very Mac OSX like. you canr ead reviews of Win7 elsewhere, but note that this computer has Home Premium, not Starter like the Atom-based netbooks.

The Bad:

The track pad is tiny and hard to use. This is part of the sacrafice of getting a tiny notebook, beacuse there is no way Acer could have made it any bigger. The multi-touch features make it a little more usefull, but don’t even come close to the quality of apples track pads.

THe keyboard is nice and I’m back up to about my old typing speed, but the flatness of the keys makes it a little bit hard to feel your way around, and the the keyboard has some flex.

Acer’s documentation is pretty much non existent. the box contains a quick start guide and a copy of the warranty. There is no disc with documentation or a recovery disc, although you can burn one with an external drive.

Bloatware: The Acer comes preinstalled with all sorts of junk you don’t need. I knew this coming in , but it was still annoying to have to spend time uninstalling everything. The biggest annoyance came when The Macafee Secuirty center downloaded an update for itself that conflicted with the computers power management and cuase it to freeze when going to sleep, I had to run system restore twice because, the software auto updated again after the restore, causing the same problem.

Overall this is a well equiped laptop at a great price, and I’d recomend it with a few reservations about the bloatware and lack of documentation. But I saved $1200 over buying another apple so I will but up with a few hassles

This computer is just a bit larger than a netbook, but offers much more computing power and a much more useable keyboard for modestly more in price.

Pros:

1) 2 GB memory standard.

2) 64 Bit Windows 7 Home Prem.

3) SU2300 processor is able to run powerful applications including Windows 7 Pro with XP Mode, Dragon Naturally Speaking, VirtualBox.

4) Long battery life.

5) Display bright enough for outdoor use.

7) Can playback HD content from Netflix online and iTunes without stuttering.

Lightweight

9) Battery does not stick out of computer like netbooks.

Cons:

1) Needed to update firmware to allow use of XP Mode.

2) 11.6 inch display is small – a limitation of the basic form factor.

3) Web cam not as good as on MacBooks

4) Win 7 still not as useable as Mac OS X.

5) Glossy display is inferior to matte, but seems to be the prevailing industry trend.

For the price, it is highly recommendable. Hopefully durability will be good.

The Acer 1410 with Intel dual-core SU2300 and Windows 7 is a useful, general purpose mini-notebook. It is small and light enough to be carried around all the time, yet large and fast enough to do most ordinary work. Word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail and Web browsing are all responsive, although there have been reports of some performance limits showing HD video. These units are being delivered with 64-bit Windows and 2GB of memory. For about US$80 one can install 2×2GB of PC2-6400 memory, reselling the delivered 2×1GB of PC2-5300 memory if that proves possible. Speed becomes faster and battery life longer when using the Windows Classic theme and setting “Adjust for best performance” in Control Panel, System, Advanced system settings, under Advanced and Performance. Even with maximum power use the unit remains cool, with only slight warming near left-side ventilation exhausts.

The display provides about 135 color pixels per inch, while the human eye is capable of resolving only about 70-90 per inch. Small-size text will be unreadable without a magnifier. However, all commonly used Windows displays are readable, unaided, for a person with normal to somewhat near-sighted vision. Display software provides an option to boost text dimensions 25 percent at the expense of reducing content of application windows. A 50 percent brightness setting is adequate for indoor use and extends battery life. Even 100 percent brightness cannot overcome reflections from the glossy screen for outdoor use. Visibility angles are limited to around 30 degrees in practice, slightly more from above, and color fade begins at about 15 degrees.

The keyboard design provides full US spacing of 9 inches across a row of 12 keys. Tactile feedback is adequate for fast touch-typing. The touchpad is adequate, but its many options may confuse new users. It is best to start by visiting Control Panel, Mouse, Device Settings, Settings, and disabling all options except Buttons, setting the PalmCheck and Touch Sensitivity options to the second lightest. Later the span of options can be adjusted as familiarity with the unit grows. The touchpad software is unresponsive. Even with options disabled, the pointer movement on the display is apt to surge and freeze. Acer’s case design worsens those problems by providing poor tactile feedback for touchpad boundaries.

The WiFi interface performs creditably and connects quickly. WiFi can be disabled by a switch under the front edge to save power when it is not needed. There is also a Bluetooth switch, but the 1410 does not come with Bluetooth. The audio is adequate for typical office use, where most Windows sounds are usually disabled. Battery life in normal use is likely to be around 5 hours. The power adapter delivered provides only 30 watts, maybe because of safety issues and recalls Acer has experienced. Battery recharge time with the computer off is around 2-1/2 hours and twice that with the computer on. Windows 7 performs without the reliability problems and the annoyances of Windows Vista. There are minor functional improvements over Windows XP, nothing that adds much productivity for office use. Utilities like Notepad and Calculator have not changed function since Windows 95.

The 1410’s rich cousin, the 1810, is expected to be available in quantity by mid-November, 2009. Its SU7300 processor will be about 20 percent faster, and it will be delivered with 4GB memory and a bigger disk. For most office uses there will be no added benefit to justify a 50 percent higher price. Some customers may be attracted by around a 25 percent increase in battery capacity. Overall the Acer 1410 is a good candidate for performing typical office work in a mobile setting, but no portable computer delivers the productivity of a fast desktop computer with a large display, mouse and freestanding keyboard.

Some reservations: Acer’s documentation is unsatisfactory, only available on delivered machines, not on the Web. It consists of a “quick guide” to a category of machines, in this case both 1410 and 1810 models, equivalent to five typewritten pages, and a “generic guide” to the Aspire family, mainly on proprietary software, written in a CYA style and in a British dialect of English. As an example of the low-grade advice, it recommends carrying a spare battery but nowhere specifies appropriate batteries, or for that matter, specifies any other replacement parts or product options. In the case of the 1410, this can be disastrous, because the same 1410 model number was used by Acer for an earlier portable computer, which requires different batteries. The battery is Acer part number UM09E31, but as of October, 2009, there was no source for that battery. Acer’s warranty requires a lawyer to decipher, saying to contact a “Call Center” but providing no telephone number.

This is an excellent ultraportable laptop. I feel the screen size is perfect for viewing without being overly small or requiring a large frame.

Windows 7 Home Premium runs very smoothly and is relatively quick. Make sure you tell windows update to ask you before you download and install updates, before it starts bogging down your internet connection and cpu whenever it wants to. Even when it does run the update, you can still run other programs at a relative pace. Picks up new devices and installs the drivers rather quickly.

I find the keyboard to be good enough that you can type rather quickly without making major mistakes. The bottom of the laptop gets somewhat warm but not boiling hot that you can’t bear it. The fan is also a little loud, but not overly and not silent either.

I chose this specific model due to the faster processor. The price increase over a 10.1″ Acer netbook is definitely worth it – you get Home Premium, 2gb ram, larger screen, and a dual core processor. HDMI is a plus as well (as I will soon connect this to my HDTV).

Only drawback in my opinion is that it should’ve come with the 250gb hard drive, but it was either that and the slower processor, or the better processor and a 160gb. External USB drives are cheap nowadays anyway, so faster processor it was. 3gb of ram would’ve been nice, but the 2gb definitely does the job well for basic computing.

Overall, a great buy and I’m very happy.

I own both this laptop with the dual core SU2300 and the model with the single core SU3500. The SU2300 feels quicker and has a lower cpu utilization for a given activity than the single core SU3500, but my initial observation is that the battery life may be less (~10%)for the SU2300 laptop. I’m curious to see what results the formal review sites get.

I got it at such a steal at Costco for they ended up giving me a $90.00 credit. What I like is the keyboard (much more tactile), the weight, quick downloads, the size 14″ screen is perfect for me, it’s energy efficient, the battery life (though I have not really seen how long it will run but at least 6 hours, the camera (I checked out HP and their software and it was terrible for there is more control here. Oh yes and this model has a 500 giga bite hard drive which is quite nice. Still learning what Windows 7 can do for I am no computer geek.

The main drawback for me is the speakers they are small and tinny so if you really enjoy listening to music through the speakers or watch movies find another model or wear headphones. Otherwise, great laptop and loved the price.

Amazing laptop. Long battery life. I went from an older 14 inch Acer to this one. Twice the CPU speed, less than 1/3 the power usage. It’s quiet, cool, light and runs a great OS with 64bits. You can get a machine smaller, lighter, or faster but nobody has beaten this package. Also, it looks great. Sophisticated and clean no shiny plastic that shows every fingerprint and scratch. The keyboard seemed a bit strange at first but I’m up to full speed on it after about an hour.

This model has a dual core CPU. Don’t bother with the older Acer Timelines with the 2700 or 3500 single cores. That was just a warm up until the real stuff came out from Intel.

I like this machine so much, I’m thinking about spending another $300 on a solid state drive.

The only negative I found is the crapware that comes installed and having to waste an hour or more uninstalling software.

I ordered the Acer Timeline 4810TZ-4508 to replace my two-year old Lenovo Thinkpad T61, and I love it!

Getting started was very easy. It only took me about two hours to register Windows 7 Home Premium, upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (through the Anytime Upgrade feature), create factory default backup discs, remove some bloatware, and install some of my favorite programs. After reading some of the reviews of the older models, I was worried about the prospect of flashing the BIOS or updating the VGA/LAN drivers, but my computer has worked fine without those updates. I suspect that Acer may have fixed those problems for this model, since it’s a new release with Windows 7.

Although the processor is ostensibly slower than the Intel Core 2 Duo processor in my T61, I had to underclock the T61 because it tended to overheat and shut down. With this Timeline, I’m able to run the processor at full speed without any heating or cooling problems. The computer is surprisingly zippy. I found that I was able to listen to music, convert tracks on iTunes, surf the web, and install programs all at the same time, without any noticeable lag in performance. Full screen streaming video on [...] and [...] also looked fantastic, without any jerkiness or skipping. (In fact, video playback was better than on my Thinkpad which, notwitstanding the faster processor, had less RAM and a slower video card.) The screen is very bright, and even at the dimmest setting, I was surprised with how much clearer it was than my old Thinkpad. It is a glossy screen, however, which means that it looks great indoors but is very difficult to use outdoors. I have found the glare a bit distracting, but not a deal-breaker. I don’t play computer games, so I can’t say anything about its performance in that regard.

Of course, one of the main reasons I purchased the Timeline was for portability, and it really doesn’t disappoint. The laptop is noticeably thinner and lighter than my T61 – I think the total weight is about 4 lbs. and it’s just over an inch thick. Acer wasn’t kidding about the battery life: I spent 4.5 hours today at Starbucks surfing the web, listening to music, and using Microsoft Word with the screen at medium brightness, and still had 45% battery by the end. I am sure that I could get about 8-9 hours of total battery life, if I minimized all the settings. After fighting for power outlets and worrying about tripping over power cords with my Thinkpad, this is a refreshing change.

Coming from using the T61’s fantastic keyboard, I was kind of nervous about this chiclet-style design, but I easily got used to it. The keys give a lot of tactile feedback, and they are well-enough spaced that you don’t hint the wrong keys. The touchpad, however, is a bit difficult to use, and I’m still getting used to the stiffness of the touchpad button.

Overall, this is a fantastic computer, and a great value at the price. I think if you are considering the different 14 inch models, the 4810TZ-4508 has some advantages over the cheaper/older models: more RAM, faster processor, 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, and newer drivers.

I’ve owned 7 laptops from Toshiba, Dell, HP, and a few others over the last 12 years and this one is the best I have owned by far. The battery life is outstanding however not the 8 hours Acer advertises. It averages closer to 5 hours which is still excellent. Performance wise, it is only average but its light weight and the advantage of not worrying about running out of power while working away from an outlet more than make up for it. I have only had this laptop for a week but I am very happy with my purchase. Being the best laptop I have owned to date, it makes me smile to know that it has also been the least expensive. I recommend it wholeheartedly. I bought my wife an Acer netbook last X-mas and she loved it so I gave Acer a try when it came time to replace my Dell. My only problem now is my wife now wants my Timeline laptop because it is as slim as her netbook but with a bigger screen.

I got this last week and am generally pleased. The display is great–large and very sharp. Everything works very quickly, and there weren’t too many junky programs preloaded.

HOWEVER, they keyboard is really terrible. It fails to recognize about 1 in 10 letters I type. Then, sometimes, it doubles letters. It is very, very frustrating to type on this thing. I would not recommend it if you have lots of typing to do!

I must have owned at least 50 computers (about 8 laptops) by now and this is an example of how they just keep getting better.

They display is improved and really gives color and sharpness to your drab old photos. The large square keyboard keys are a joy to type on. Mousepad takes some getting used to since you have to use the left side since the right is reserved for (new W 7) pinching etc. But there is a key to disable the pad (and then use a USB mouse)

The unit stays remarkably cool and the battery lasts 3.5-4.5 hrs (I think)

Seems to pick up more wireless signals and stronger

Incidently the notebook has 4 usb inputs! – 2 on each side!

Volume + and – keys are nice when watching DVD’s

It doesn’t have built in bluetooth but evidently another model must because it has a (disbled) bluetooth on off key

It comes in a small box with just the battery and charger and very little literature (most is loaded on the hard disk and available online. good – less clutter

I made the single repair disk but haven’t done the big 5 disk image. I also deleted MacAfee

Windows 7 seems amazingly solid and simple. By far microsoft’s best effort. It eliminates a lot of clicks. Features a dedicated show desktop hover click in lower right. Simplifications abound. After a while you seem to forget how easy everything is to do without losing the way you have done thing for a long time. You can think more about what you are doing and not on how to get the computer there

So far only one problem with Win 7 (perhaps my recent update fixed it) is that the desktop has twice lost icons I have placed there

After making a lot of comparisons between the various laptops being offered since Windows 7 was released I found the Acer 4111 to be an outstanding buy at $479.99 through Amazon. It has so many nice features, 4 gigs of memory, 4 USB slots, a built in modem, 2.1 gig CPU and I could go on and on. It is a long list of features. I have only had it for 4 days and am impressed with it in so many ways. So far I am pleased with Windows 7. It seems pretty solid and it does have some nice touches to it. A word of caution on this model is that it does not come with backup DVD’s. You will need at least 4 blank DVD disks and the built in backup program works very smoothly.

One irritant I ran into was a very annoying Macaffe (trial version) pop-up window every few minutes. I solved that by deleting the program. As the Acer comes with a 320 gig hard drive you will find that you have only about 260 gigs free. There is a lot of junk on the hard drive that could come off to free up more space.

I recommend this Acer and gave it 5 stars. I also am very well pleased with Amazon.

I went to Acer and ordered this item on the 10th with expedited shipping because it was a repair part. On the 15th I called to find out that it had been placed on backorder and I “should” get it in a few days. I canceled the order and placed with Brilliant store on the 15th and got it on the 16th at nearly half price.

My reccomendation is to not go to the PC mfg for parts you can replace yourself.

I also want to thank Brilliant Store for their great service, the part was here before the Amazon shipping e-mail.

A solid game that deserves more attention than it got. Really diverse and immersive multiplayer FPS. Unique “DCM” Dynamic Combat Missions in MP which make for a high replay value for this game. Graphic Top Notch. Overall 4/5. Get it, love it.

The game looks good and has a creative theme but the plot has 0 development (if you really care about that) and most of the weapons physics make no sense, i.e. it’s easier to kill someone with a pistol than assault rifle and easier to kill someone with a shotgun than rocket launcher. And since when do armored vehicles (which are impossible to drive adeptly, btw) loaded with weapons need to be escorted by infantry? And why are they so susceptible to small arms fire? I guess the definition of “armored” is different in the future. It’s a big advantage that one can just respawn, but so much time is wasted “burning in” and running to the action that you might as well give up under certain circumstances.

The campaign may not be very long, but the 16 player bot matches with adjustable difficulty, awesome 32 player online matches, fully customizable loadouts, deployables, and general awesomeness of this game make up for it.

I try to limit TV watching as much as possible, but these stories have become staples in our house. They’re great for several reasons:

1. The videos are drawn from good books, so the stories are all good

2. Most of the animation is not too busy — simple and traditional

3. A lot of the music is really good. Just the Antarctica story alone has about 10 great songs that my kid loves to sing

4. Each disk has bonus stories that are often as good (or better) than the headliners

5. The stories are short, and so are perfect for limited-time wind-downs

I have been impressed with the consistent quality of the set. Each disk has a different theme, but I have been very happy with all of them.

I love this TV. I’m sure I would feel differently had I not updated the firmware before I even tried to use it, but since I did — I LOVE THIS TV! I am going to try to put the link for the update at the bottom of this review, but Amazon may have a policy to delete links in reviews. If this happens, then go to [...] and follow the links for this model. You’ll eventually find the update. Download it to a jump drive and plug it into the service port (the only one that’ll take USB) with the TV off, then turn the TV on and things will take care of themselves.

So I finally got this TV for a multi reason based using. I just replaced my G5 with a Mac Pro and got a PS3 slim for the bed room as well while the older PS3 is hooked up to our 60″ Sony SXRD. I needed a larger monitor for my Mac Pro, but also wanted a TV for the room and we were originally going to go with the 24″ Cinema display from Apple. Amazing unit but is only for the computer and that is it. With that said, I turned to Sony.

The XBR9 does a great job with blacks and colors so when my Mac is running and im in Final Cut or iPhoto, the picture quality is great (I went DVI to HDMI) and when I switch the input over to the PS3 (HDMI), everything continues to look fantastic. So Games/Blu-ray and TV are great.

Again, I have to stress though like other reviewers, the XBR9 does not look as good as the XBR8 because its lower in the series! I mean look at the price difference for the love of god. So please, dont think that somehow Sony has gone back in their mindset. Just 2 different series.

I recently upgraded from my old CRT TV and have been completely satisfied with my purchase. We did compare LCD TVs in a showroom and the Sony Bravia clearly had the best picture. It had sharp detail and the best blacks of all the brands. The only weakness is the sound because of the small speakers but there is an output so I can use my stereo system and it sounds great. If you have home theatre system that will work as well.

I love the picture – it’s absolutely beautiful (too beautiful, I’m watching too much tv now!) And the user controls are quite easy, the inputs a snap and the overall usage quite nice. Attractive tv. And the price was quite good!

BTW, I am using an HD antenna and am happily surprised with the quality – it’s great!

This TV requires two things:

1) Install the firmware update. Details on how to do this can be found at the manufacturer’s website by typing in the model number (KDL-40V5100) and following the support instructions.

2) Calibrate the settings for optimal performance. It will vary a bit based on your room environment, but this should be pretty darn close (settings found in the “Picture” menu):

You now have one of the best pictures you can get for under a grand, and not too far away from even the most high-end of models. The TV has a few flaws (like only 1 HDMI input on the back of the TV, making wire control a bit of a hassle and having a bit clunkier design than some models), but the picture itself is great. Highly recommended.

I purchased this TV about two months ago. I waited until now to write the review. I have this v5100, a PS3 Slim, and Xbox 360 elite. First and foremost, the picture is exceptional, I already have a 65′ Mitsubishi DLP, this is a welcome addition to the home. First off, the picture on this LCD unit is amazing, it may be the 120 HZ refresh, I’m not sure. Blu-Ray looks good enough that I am in the process of updating my DVD library with as many as I can find.

Cons, I bought this TV, a PS3 Slim, and Sony Sound Bar for the Bravia Sync. Bravia Sync is about 50% effective, I can control the Sound Bar with my television and cable box remote which makes it bearable. The bravia sync feature seems limitied, to the point where it doesn’t work half the time. I’m constantly having to rescan the unit, not to mention that the PS3 won’t even recognize the television as a Sony Product and limits Blu-ray capability until you find the 1080p Blu-ray option in the settings and disable.

I wrote this review because I purchased this TV to watch blu-ray, and I purchased the v5100 to sync w/ the PS3 slim, and it doesn’t even work properly. The TV it self is great, the problem is that it is not as advertised.

The TV is great and all the features are great,but the HDMI has a control feature that will cause a little conflict with function. I just turned the control off and all is well. I would recommend this TV.

Almost purchased a Samsung LED TV from BB until I saw this set next to the Samsung. For $500 less, the picture quatily was identical. Found it even cheaper at Amazon, with free shipping. The picture quality is incredible. I have it paired with a PS3 as well as the Sony HDX-589 home theater system. No blurring while playing the PS3 or watching high speed sports. The software update was simple to install, and I’ve had no problems with the picture. Would buy this TV again.

I was planning to buy a LCD for so long (almost 6 months), and then after a lot of research I bought this TV 2 months back and since then have started watching TV a lot. Truly a great buy !! The football games on Sunday could not have been better. With a 46″ screen and amazing picture quality in HD, and to that when you the loud sound (considering that I had an older TV before), watching Sunday games becomes awesome.

I am thinking of getting another Sony this holiday season, as we have only one TV and I want another one in my GAME room.

A great TV for a great price.

There’s nothing more than I can say, other than that this TV is awesome. Love the picture. It absolutely blows my mind. I have a sony bravia surround 7.1 setup for it, and I will never have to go to the movies, since the movies are playing in my living room. Take that Barry Obama, you can try to take away my healthcare, but you can’t take away my blu-ray.

This is the best TV. Easy to set up, pull it out of the box-the directions are right at the top of the box on how to set it up-place it on the stand, screw in 4 screws, turn it on, it programs itself and PRESTO! We were watching TV in less than 15 minutes. The sound is excellent, the speakers are on the front. The picture is wonderful, even though I do not have HD on my satellite-do not want to pay for it-the size is perfect for my living area (the helpful size chart on the Amazon.com website was a life saver). My living area has south facing windows and there is no glare on the screen. My kids used to close the curtains to watch TV (drove me crazy)and they have not done that since this TV arrived. I went to my parents’ house this weekend and noticed my dad had the same TV in a 52 inch size. When I saw that, I felt confident that I had picked the correct TV since my dad is a huge techno freak and always orders the best of everything. I bought this TV as a “I got laid off” present to myself and have not regretted it.
